This webinar will focus on the essential, foundational concepts of Leading Evidence. It is designed to be a “how to” correctly prepare to lead your evidence and conduct it. The webinar will cover the key rules of evidence, including how to lay a proper foundation, avoid hearsay, and structure your evidence in chief to illicit relevant and reliable evidence. It is practically focused so it will contain an example of leading evidence from a criminal fact pattern. Attendees will be provided this in advance so you can track how the evidence is lead, and ask questions about the approach taken by the presenters.
The webinar also delves into methods for refreshing a witnesses’ recollection, structuring your evidence in chief, signposting and redirecting the witness to illicit the evidence required. Attendees will gain insights into ensuring that they can lead evidence in an admissible and persuasive manner.

Robin McCoubrey
Robin's experience includes prosecuting trials of the utmost seriousness, including high-profile cases of homicide, profit-driven organised criminal offending and serious sexual offending. He has appeared in over 100 jury trials before the District and High Courts.
He also regularly appears for the Crown in the Court of Appeal and, in one instance, the Supreme Court.
He also has considerable experience acting in proceeds of crime litigation, as well as advising and appearing for a number of regulatory bodies.
Robin is currently a partner at and senior crown prosecutor with Meredith Connell and will join the independent bar on 1 July.

Rachael Reed KC
Appointed as a King’s Counsel in 2017, Rachael has conducted numerous high-profile cases. Practising at the intersection of criminal and civil law, she is an expert in fraud, financial services and regulatory cases. She leads long and complex criminal and civil trials. She also assists clients during investigations conducted by all regulators with an eye to minimising risk and managing reputation.
Rachael has also conducted high profile and complex appeals in the Court of Appeal and has been previously appointed counsel to assist the Court in the Supreme Court.
Rachael is also internationally recognised for her advocacy. She has taught advocacy on an Advanced Advocacy Training Course in Australia in 2019 and on the reknown South Eastern Circuit Tim Dutton QBE KC Advanced International Advocacy Course at Keble, Oxford for 3 consecutive years in 2019, 2022 and 2023 (courses were not held in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid concerns). Rachael is a co-chair of the Bar Association’s Education Committee.
