David PH Jones KC

David commenced his career as a prosecutor at Meredith Connell & Co.  He became a barrister sole in June 1987 and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2005.

David has extensive experience as senior defence counsel in matters involving serious crime and he appears regularly at all levels in New Zealand Courts.  Although David’s practice is primarily defence work, he is a member of the Auckland Crown Solicitor’s Prosecution Panel and for 10 years was a member of the Serious Fraud Office Prosecution Panel.  David also has a significant civil practice which comprises litigation under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act as well as commercial and corporate litigation.

Rachel Burt

Rachel Burt is an employment and human rights barrister who has over 20 years specialist experience, including ten years at Dentons Kensington Swan, as senior counsel. Rachel is an AWI certified workplace investigator who has acted for numerous state sector and private organisations conducting large-scale investigations and cultural reviews over many years. Rachel is also a qualified mediator and restorative practice proponent, specialising in employment disputes. She provides advocacy and advice on behalf of clients regarding all matters related to employment law and professional conduct matters. As part of her work, Rachel often advices on privacy related aspects and works on cases throughout New Zealand.

Nikki Pender (Chair)

Nikki is a barrister at Kate Sheppard Chambers Nikki began her career at the Crown Law Office, where she appeared regularly for the Crown in judicial review and commercial-regulatory matters. Nikki has 30 years’ experience representing private sector clients and regulatory agencies in civil, competition, disciplinary and public law matters. She also contributes to policy development and law reform, particularly in the justice sector. Nikki is the founding director of Legal Empowerment, which provides witness familiarisation and expert witness skills training in Australia and New Zealand. She also teaches and coaches advocacy skills.
