Search Powers,Enforcement Search Powers | CPD 1.0 hr
In this recorded webinar, Fletcher Pilditch KC examines the implications of the recent Court of Appeal judgment in R v Pikia [2024] NZCA 408, which assessed the Serious Fraud Office's extensive use of notices and search warrants issued under the Serious Fraud Office Act 1990. The Court’s judgment has reaffirmed the requirements imposed by s21 of the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990, and established case law, when enforcement agencies deploy search powers.
This presentation also touches in issues regarding the seizure and search of electronic information in criminal investigations.
Kate Mills is chair of the webinar.
Fletcher Pilditch KC was counsel for the appellant and brings first-hand knowledge of the case.
