In this episode from our " Chat With" series, Paul Radich KC speaks to the Hon Dame Silvia Cartwright ONZ, PCNZM, DBE, QSO.  

Dame Silvia was the first woman to be appointed as Chief District Court Judge and the first woman to be appointed as a High Court judge. She served as Governor General from 2001 to 2006 and has headed some of our most significant inquiries and reviews, including the 1988 Inquiry into Allegations Concerning the Treatment of Cervical Cancer at National Women's Hospital (known as ‘the Cartwright Inquiry’). Subsequently, Dame Silvia has, amongst so many other things, served as a judge in the Trial Chamber of the Cambodia Tribunal, led a United Nations investigation into alleged war crimes and abuses in Sri Lanka and has sat as one of four international judges in an International Bar Association hearing on crimes against humanity in North Korean detention centres.
