Court operating protocols to be reviewed after Government removes COVID-19 restrictions

The Prime Minister announced yesterday (14 August) the removal of the remaining COVID-19 restrictions. From 11.59pm 14 August 2023 it will no longer be mandatory for people with COVID-19 to isolate for seven days. A five-day isolation period is now recommended. Mask-wearing settings for health facilities have also been reviewed.

The judiciary is reviewing the court operating protocols in light of the announcement. As it has done throughout the pandemic, the judiciary – working with the Ministry of Justice – will consider public health advice in order to ensure that the courts can continue to operate safely, the Chief Justice said today.

Additional information will be provided on Courts of NZ website in due course.
