NZBA President Appointed Acting District Court Judge
Tauranga Queen’s Counsel and NZBA President, Paul Mabey QC, has been appointed an Acting District Court Judge with a jury warrant to be based initially in Tauranga and then in Rotorua, Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson QC has announced.
Mr Mabey practised as a litigation solicitor for 18 years in Christchurch, Palmerston North and Tauranga. In 1994 he joined the independent bar conducting criminal and general litigation. In 2000 he was appointed Queen’s Counsel and has since specialised in criminal law.
Mr Mabey is a former chair of Tauranga Girls College Board of Trustees.
Judge Mabey will be sworn in on 28 April 2016 in Courtroom 1, Cameron House, Tauranga District Court, Tauranga. The ceremony will be at 4.30pm, commencing with a mihi whakatau. Members of the NZBA are invited to attend this swearing in ceremony and are requested to assemble no later than 4.15pm.
NZBA President Elect Clive Elliott QC will take over from Mr Mabey as NZBA President.
