Intervention Rule: Direct Instructions Applications

From 1 July 2015, barristers can apply to the New Zealand Law Society for approval to accept instructions directly from clients without an instructing solicitor, subject to limitations as to forum or the type of work. Recent amendments to the rule have expanded the exceptions to the requirement that barristers have an instructing solicitor. However, if the exceptions do not apply, the intervention rule remains in place.

The new requirements can be found on the Law Society's website.
